The Sony Cyber-shot HX100V is a 16.2 Megapixel super-zoom camera with a 30x stabilized lens and a flip-up 3 inch LCD screen. Released concurrently with the Cyber-shot HX9V pocket super-zoom in February 2011, the HX100V shares the same Exmor-R back-illuminated CMOS sensor in a larger SLR-styled body with a much longer zoom range.

With a sensor in common, the HX100V shares many of the HX9V’s features, including 1080p50/60 HD video, 10fps burst shooting, 3D and sweep panorama modes, along with a built-in GPS receiver. The Cyber-shot HX100V also includes the composite Hand-held Twilight and Anti Motion Blur modes in addition to new Backlight Correction HDR and Background Defocus modes.

The Cyber-shot HX100V is Sony’s first DSLR-styled super-zoom model since the Cyber-shot HX1 back in 2009. Since then Canon and Panasonic have established a strong position in this market with the PowerShot SX30 IS, and the Lumix FZ100 and FZ45 / 40 (not to mention the latest FZ47 / FZ48). Does the Cyber-shot HX100V have what it takes to re-establish Sony in the Super-zoom market, or has two years out of the game given the competition too much of a lead for Sony to regain? Let’s find out in our full review of the Sony Cyber-shot HX100V.

According to dpreview:

There is a lot to like about the HX100V. Its 30x optical zoom lens, which covers 27-810mm (equivalent) is incredibly versatile, the camera feels great in the hand, is comfortable to use and its 16MP sensor provides image quality which, at most ISO sensitivity settings compares well with the best of its competition. Especially impressive is the HX100V’s video mode, which offers a maximum quality of 1080/60p from 60fps sensor output. In addition, as we’ve found with other recent Sony cameras, both compact and interchangeable lens models, high-speed modes like Backlight Correction HDR and Hand-held twilight work well and add real value to the camera.

The Achilles’ heel of the HX100V is without a doubt, its slow operational performance. Its headlline fast framerate modes are exactly that – fast – but basic operations like reviewing images in playback and switching modes involve significant wait times that can easily mean the difference between capturing or missing that special moment.

A full-frame 18-megapixel sensor with the biggest pixels ever in a Canon DSLR. ISO 204,800. 12fps RAW shooting. 61-point autofocus. Three DIGIC image processors. One gigabit ethernet port.
There’s a lot here, so I hope you’re sitting somewhere comfortable.

The $6800 1D X replaces both of the cameras currently at the top of the Canon pile, the 1D Mark IV and 1Ds Mark III. The full-frame 18-megapixel image sensor is a brand new design, with the biggest pixels of any Canon DSLR sensor yet—6.95 microns, which is 1.25 microns larger than the 1DMKIV and 0.55 microns bigger than the 5DMKII’s pixels—and the now-standard gapless micro lens architecture. Additionally it’s got a new photodiode structure with ultra-efficient photoelectric conversion rate. Canon’s promising it’s their lowest noise sensor ever.

You might not be a professional photographer, but at some point or other you are likely to want to take a group photo. Fortunately, you don’t need specialise equipment to make sure these shots look great – just follow these few simply rules…

Most good group photos require a certain degree of planning. This might simply involve looking out for the best locations to take pictures during particular occasion, or you may want to think about photo location a little further in advance. If possible, make the location relevant to the event – so if you are photographing a hockey team, you might want to take your group photo on the pitch, rather than when the team are doing their shopping or playing games of Partypoker. If your background and location appears relevant, then the audience viewing your photo is less likely to be distracted by it.

In the same way, if the event which you are taking group at is centred around one or two people – such as a birthday or wedding, then you will want to make sure that these individuals are at the centre of the shot. Think about where the light in your image is coming from – ideally, everyone should be well-lit, without any members of the group having to squint.

You should also make sure than all members of the group are equally spaced from each other and, if your photo is a little more formal, you should also place taller individuals towards the back of the shot. It is a usually a good idea to take more than one picture of any group gathering, to try and avoid a picture where a member of the group is blinking, or where not everyone is looking at the camera, if this is the style of photograph which you are aiming to capture.

Together with the HDC-TM900 and HDC-HS900, the Panasonic HDC-SD800 is part of Panasonic’s 2011 range of flagship HD camcorders. The HDC-SD800 offers the renowned 3MOS image sensor system with 1080/60p recording, Intelligent Auto, Hybrid OIS, and Eco-Mode.

Aside from price differences, the main difference between these camcorders is the amount of storage. The Panasonic HDC-SD800 records to memory cards, while the HDC-TM900 had 32GB of internal memory and the HDC-HS900 has a 220GB hard disk drive. That said, all three camcorders can record to SD/SDHC/SDXC memory cards. The Panasonic HDC-SD800 lacks the lens control ring found on the HDC-HS900 and HDC-TM900. It also lacks the 5.1-Channel Surround Sound System.
The touch screen is smaller too. It has a 3 inch 230,000 dot touch-screen LCD, while the HDC-HS900 and HDC-TM900 have 3.5 inch touch screen LCDs with 460,800 dots. The larger 3.5 inch touch screen of the other HDC-xx900 models is a half inch wider than last year’s model, the TM700. All three camcorders can record still images at 14.2 megapixels. The body of these camcorders is offered in one color, black.

The Kodak Playsport, also known as the Zx3, is the evolution of Kodak’s Zx1. While that model was weather-resistant, the Playsport is waterproof, able to record underwater down to 9.8 feet. There are other improvements, too, that make it a more capable pocket video camera–in and out of the water.
For its price there’s little to complain about, but if you’re after specific shooting abilities or features you’ll want to keep reading. However, if your main concerns are an inexpensive HD pocket video camera that can handle a day at the pool, a hike in the woods, or some time in inclement weather, the Playsport is highly recommended.

Snippet from cnet:

With pocket video cameras, easily sharing the video is equally as important as shooting it. Stored on the device’s internal memory is ArcSoft’s MediaImpression for Kodak software for sharing. Connect the Playsport to a computer via USB and the software will start installing. Be careful with your clicking, though, as the software will ask whether you want to use it as your primary application for viewing multiple types of photos and video. Once installed it will allow you to e-mail clips and upload directly to YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, and Vimeo (after you’ve entered your account information, of course). There’s a basic editor for trimming and cutting along with adjustments for color, contrast, and brightness, underwater enhancement, dynamic lighting, and denoise. You can apply a handful of fun effects as well such as Watercolor, Negative, and Sketch. It can capture individual frames and also convert video for use on Apple TV, iPhone, and iPod as well as Sony’s PlayStation Portable and PlayStation 3. Unfortunately, one thing it can’t do is work on a Mac: the software is Windows only. If you own a Mac, you can copy your video and still images to your computer by dragging and dropping the files from the camcorder as you would with any USB storage device (and upload them to YouTube easily enough) and then edit your video using iMovie.

3. The Artistic vista of a Photographer - in the role of a qualified photographer, your audience may possibly not consider it I beg your pardon? You consider it in the picture. People compensate merit to the theme and not on the background. It be supposed to join every one other.

There’s no doubt the Eye-Fi range has a niche appeal: being able to wirelessly transfer photos from your camera to your computer is something only so many people need. Moreover, the extra features brought about by the Pro X2 version of the range are even more specialist – most amateurs won’t need instant RAW transfers for instance. However, if you’re an enthusiastic photographer who works a lot while out and about and needs instant access to your photos, the Eye-Fi Pro X2 is an awesome purchase. It doesn’t come cheap but compared to dedicated proprietary wireless solutions, it’s a bargain, and of course it will work in any camera.

While the former camera is the subject of our review, aside from GPS the features of both cameras are identical, so for the sake of brevity we’ll just call our camera the WG-1 unless stated otherwise.

The Micro Four Thirds Puffer, like its full-size counterparts, is designed to diffuse the often harsh, direct light from the camera’s built-in flash unit. In theory, this produces better portraits and a more even distribution of light across a scene.

Have you already mastered the art of taking photos without ‘red-eye’ syndrome? Are there some pictures that you know you should have turned out a lot better than they did? It happens to all of us – even the expert photographers.

Here are five tips to help you move from beginner to master of digital photography, whether you’re using your cell phone or a point-and-shoot camera to snap shots.

Compose Carefully

One of the most basic digital photography tips is to pay attention to what’s in the frame of the viewfinder. Fill the frame. Nothing but blue sky, for instance, behind a single subject throws off the proportions of the photo and decreases interest. You can also turn the camera sideways to see if a vertical photo might have more impact than a horizontal shot of the same subject.
You can also try positioning your subject off to the side, rather than in the center of the photograph.

Take Great Close up Photos

Your digital camera has a “macro mode” – think of it as a super magnifying glass. An extreme close up of something like flower petals can bring out textures that you never knew existed, and will add excitement to your photos. Play with this feature, you will find dozens of ways to use it to enhance your pictures.

Buy a Tripod

Digital cameras are prone to blurry photographs if your hands shake even a little bit. Several companies manufacture light, portable, inexpensive versions. Digital photography tips like this can save you hours of frustration and preserve otherwise perfect shots.
Get Active
Take your shot from the top of a teeter-totter, off the side of the boat, or standing on your head. Thinking outside the box can really pay off in unexpected ways. You will truly get once in a lifetime shots by adding a bit of creativity to your thinking.

Take a Class

Are you still hungry for digital photography tips? There’s nothing like practice to improve your photography – except practice plus experience gained by learning from a pro. You can find photography classes online, at your local recreation centers, and community colleges.
Becoming an expert at digital photography takes time; you won’t become a professional photographer in your first week. Just keep trying new methods each time you use your camera, and before long, your friends and family will be admiring your newfound skills.

With a 3″ touch-screen LCD, High-Speed Continuous Shooting technology, HDR-Art imaging and infinite configurations, the TRYX will make you rethink the compact camera.

Featuring a clever little twist, the self-timer can be triggered using the camera’s built-in motion sensor. With a simple wave of your hand the self-timer will be triggered so you can take pictures of you and your friends in just about any location, whether if you hang TRYX on a wall or set it on the table.

HIGH-DYNAMIC RANGE (HDR) TECHNOLOGY

Producing the perfect shot
HDR (High-Dynamic Range) combines information from a burst of multiple images and unites the most detailed portions of each image (taken at different exposures) for a beautiful, never-before-possible wide dynamic range.

According to Trusted Reviews:

Overall, the Casio TRYX is a bold attempt to provide something a bit different. While we applaud this, we do have concerns with the price and the digital zoom. At £250 the TRYX has to compete against some fairly high-spec compacts with superior zoom lenses and better overall image quality. Perhaps if the TRYX was closer to £150 than £250 Casio might have a winner on its hands. As it stands we’re not so sure.

Panning is a great technique to use if you want to create special effects in traditional photography fashion. You can make interesting images in the camera, without digital manipulation or photoshop filters. Like previous articles on creative lighting, you will be using similar techniques and settings on your digital SLR. For starters, panning is created when you follow a moving subject with your camera, photographing with a slow shutter speed. Here’s a few tips to get you started.

When shooting for my wedding photography company, I use the panning technique mainly during the reception. This special effect is great for dancing photos, especially line or circle dances popular in many European and Middle Eastern cultures. Let’s apply this technique to a large group of people, holding hands and circling around the bride and groom in the center of the dance floor. You want to capture the crowd, as it circles the happy couple and give them motion.

Take up a position in the center so you can see the dancers facing inward. In order to give the image a feel of movement, you’ll need to use a slow shutter speed. Since 1/60 is the lowest shutter speed for stop action, you can slow things down from there. Try setting your shutter to 1/10 of a second, using an adequate f/ stop and ISO to balance your exposure. If your camera has a rear sync shutter setting, turn that on too. This will make all objects and light appear to move in its true direction. If you are inside and there is ambient light, you can add fill flash to light your subjects. Aim your camera at the dancers and follow them in the direction they are moving. When you press the shutter, continue to pan the dancers and follow through until your exposure is complete. If you pan at the same speed the dancers are moving, the background will appear blurred while the dancers are in focus. If you are using a strobe, the light will give the dancers a good “stop action” effect too.
